Dear Malcolm,
I enclose a Southern
Hemisphere Star Map illegible
You may be able to determine
the angles of the brightest stars
at just after Sunset and and an
hour before Sunrise when the horizon is
well defined.
The Brightest stars which were
used for navigation, have Arabic Names
ie RIGEL, ALTAIR, ALPHARETZ,bet BETELGUEUSE
etc. While the Constellations have Latin names.
