In 1990, the year my mother died I attended a CBC (Certificate of Business Computing) course at the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic in Tauranga and purchased through the institution and from my tutor (Greg Wagstaff) a Taiwanese Eclipse 386 computer with Microsoft DOS-5 operating system, for around $12,000 all up, replacing my Epson HX-20 notebook computer which cost me about $2,000. The manual was shrink wrapped.
There was no modem but I bought one from a friend in the USA, which came with BitCom software.
