The Hon Judith Collins, Minister of Police, has asked me to acknowledge and than you for your correspondence of 6 March 2009,  received by this office on 11 March 2009, regarding to an Independent Police Complaints Authority inquiry.

Your correspondence relates to matters that are the responsibility of the Commissioner of Police. In New Zealand, the Commissioner must act independently of and Minister regarding the enforcement of law, the investigation and prosecution of offences, and decisions about individual police officers. This separation between Police and politicians in operational matters exists to ensure that law enforcement and investigation by the Police remains free from any political influence and interference.

I have therefore referred your correspondence to the office of the Commissioner of Police for consideration.
